XDOF Discussed Series B at Proposed $1.2 Billion Valuation

Illustration, not documentary evidence of the event.

XDOF was in late-stage talks for a Series B led by 8VC at a proposed valuation of about $1.2 billion, according to techcrunch.com, citing people familiar with the discussions. That figure described the startup’s potential valuation, not the amount it was raising. The report did not establish the round’s size or whether the valuation included the new capital.

The talks followed a $70 million Series A reported in June, less than three months after XDOF emerged from stealth. Founded in 2024, the company supplies real-world data for training general-purpose robots. Sources told the publication that annualized revenue was approaching $50 million. The terms remained subject to change, and neither XDOF nor 8VC responded to requests for comment.

XDOF’s collection methods include people remotely controlling robots and wearing sensors while performing tasks such as folding clothes. It planned to recruit and train collectors worldwide. The company had previously told TechCrunch it served 20 customers, including several frontier AI labs.

For robotics teams, the useful question is whether buying this data can reduce the work needed to train their own systems. Customer count and reported revenue suggest commercial interest, but neither establishes how well the data transfers to a particular robot or task. The report provides no results that would let a buyer assess that fit.

The expansion plan also raises a concrete operational question: can XDOF increase collection while maintaining consistent quality? Its approach depends on people, equipment and training. Evidence about collection costs, usable data output and customer requirements would help distinguish a growing operation from one that becomes more efficient as it expands. The proposed valuation alone cannot answer that question.
